Ness County 4-H Photography

The next project meeting is Sunday, January 8, 2012 @ 2 p.m. at the fairbuilding in Ness City.  Bring your camera, camera manual, pen/pencil, a light source of some type and WEAR ALL BLACK if possible.

Photography is a popular project in Ness County.  Meetings are typically held once each month where the 4-H members learn about their cameras, composition, lighting and other aspects of the project through experiential learning.  Each month the group is given a specific theme for which they are to shoot pictures.  Each member then turns in their work for evaluation at the next project meeting.

Other activities available in which members have participated include:  Photography Judging contests at the Wichita Garden Show, the Shawnee County Judging Contest, Ft Hays Judging Contest, and the Kansas State Fair; the Shawnee County Photography Workshop; Photo Adventure Camp at Rock Springs 4-H Center; Photo Fun Day at the Kansas State Fair; the Sunflower Showcase Photography Fest; the Five State Photography Competition & Exhibition; the ROAR Art Competition; 4-H Camera Corps; the Ness County Fair and several other county fairs.

Rachel Harmon is the project leader.  She is a nine year 4-H alum and has been a project leader for twenty years for five counties in two states.  She is a member of the State 4-H Photography Action Team and is the camp director for State 4-H Photo Adventure Camp.  She has also served as the Chair for Photo Fun Day and CATS - Cameras at the Springs.  She also gives workshops on photography and judges photography competitions.
